7 out of 8 Ghana Premier League games end in a draw

The 2020/2021 edition of the Ghana Premier League commenced last week although it faced some setbacks. With the new normal of player testing before games, some matches were postponed due to the number of players affected by the virus in some teams.

Additionally, teams played behind closed doors although the initial ideas was to accomodate 25% of spectators onto the field. Surprisingly, 7 out of the eight games that took place ended in a draw.

On Saturday, the curtain-raiser which featured Legon Cities and Berekum Chelsea ended in a 1-1 draw in Accra. WAFA was the only team to acquire all three maximum points from their first GPL encounter. Also, Kumasi King Faisal was the only team to have lost their opening fixture to WAFA.

Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s representative at the CAF Champions League, drew 1-1 with Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports Stadium. Also, Liberty Professionals drew one all with Bechem United at the Carl Reindorf Stadium in Dansoman. Medeama shared the points with Great Olympics after drawing 1-1. Ashantigold was unable to beat Karela FC in Obuasi as the game ended with a 2-2 draw. Ebusua Dwarfs and Elmina Sharks also drew 2-2 in their opening encounter. The last game which featured Inter Allies and Dreams FC also ended in a goalless draw.

Daniel Lomotey of WAFA and Kwame Peprah of King Faisal are currently leading the top scoring chart with two goals.
