Asante Kotoko to face FC Nouadhibou in prelims of CAF Champions League


Kumasi-based Asante Kotoko will battle out with FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania in the qualification stages of the CAF Champions League.However, he two-time champions of the competition are hoping to make a mark in the competition after disappointing for years.

The draw for the first preliminary stages took place in Egypt capital Cairo on Monday, October 9, 2020. Asante Kotoko will square-off in their first leg away game on the weekend of November 27-29. Moreover, the second leg in Ghana will take place after one week of the first leg encounter.

The winner of the game will face-off with the winner of the match between Al-Hilal and Vipers from Sudan and Uganda respectively.

Asante Kotoko, African Club of the Century, has prepared adequately for the competition as they have signed about 6 players. They have signed Emmanuel Keyekeh, Patrick Asmah, Razak Abalora, Yussif Mubarak, Fabio Gama, Sulley Muniru, Latif Anabila, and Evans Adomako.

The Ghana Premier League was scrapped off due to the COVID-19 pandemic that struck the world. A clause in the football constitution favored Asante Kotoko to represent Ghana as they won the Tier-1 Normalisation Competition in 2019.

FC Nouadhibou won the 2019/2020 Mauritanian Ligue 1 competition and is their eight-time winning the competition. On the other hand, Asante Kotoko has won the Ghana Premier League 24 times.
