GH¢500,000 stolen from bullion van after motorbike accident

Over GH¢500,000 have been stolen after a bullion van had an accident on the Hohoe-Fodome road in the Volta Region.

The unfortunate incident led to the death of a 28-year-old motorbike rider identified as Dodzi Raymond. Moreover, it has been gathered that he was a National Service Personnel. The driver of the bullion van and the other two persons were injured and have been treated and discharged successfully.

The incident was confirmed by the Commander of the Hohoe Motor-Transport and Traffic Directorate, Assistant Superintendent of Police Obeng Dickson. Also, he explained that the GN 7144-17 registered bullion van was occupied by one driver, a policeman and a cashier.

ASP Obeng Dickson added that the van was a property of Agate Dabot Company. It was transferring money from the Ho to the Hohoe branches of the Fidelity Bank. He revealed that in the attempt of the driver to escape knocking the motor rider, it caused the van to somersault.

ASP Obeng Dickson stated that the severity of the somersault caused the box which contained the money to open. Moreover, he added that the people in the surroundings stole the money and called their friends to the scene.

He said that the bullion van initially contained GH¢710,000.00 but were only able to retrieve GH¢218,232 after the incident.

The Commander said a challenge facing the MTTD was lack of a vehicle to quickly respond to emergency cases within the Command.
