NPP Bigwigs are lost in every election over the years , who’s next? Check it out

Over the years there has been a phenomenon in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Bigwigs of the party keep passing on over decades now. I have monitored some of the trends that keeps recurring each election year.

Take a look at some bigwigs the NPP has lost in election over years from 2008.

In 2008- HON. KWADWO BAAH-WIREDU

Hon Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu has been a distinguished Ghanaian politician and a key member of The formal president John Agyekum Kuffour’s administration.

He was one of the finest economists and accountants Ghana could mostly boast of. He worked worked at the Ghana Railway Authority full time before entering into politics, and was a key member that ushered the NPP

into power for the first time in 2000 After His excellence Jerry John Railings.http://asembi.com/

He had lots of appointment from president John Agyekum Kuffour in his government from 2001 to 2008 when he departed. Mr. Baah held the portfolios of the Local Government and Rural Development from 2001 to 2003 before his ushering into the Education, Youth and sports ministry from 2003 to 2005. He became minister of finance and Economic Planning in 2005. He was the first finance Minister in Ghana’s history to present the country’s budget statement and Economic Policy to the Parliament of Ghana before the arrival of that financial year.

With his second budget for the fiscal year 2006 and since then it has become a norm for all successive finance ministers to date. He made a case for Ghana on so many international platforms. He served as the member of parliament for the Ashanti Akim constituency his hometown where he retarded as one of the well noted sons of the Land.

Few months to the election on 24th September 2008, MR.Baah Wiredu died in South Africa where he had been receiving his medical treatment for a possible short illness.

IN 2012- HIS EXCELLENCY ALHAJI ALIU MAHAMA

Alhaji Aliu Mahama was one senior Member of the New Patriotic Party and also a statesman. Mr. Aliu was the only person who served as a vice President for two consecutive times in Ghana. He became the vice president from 2001 – 2009.

In addition Mr. Aliu became one of the 17 people who contested to bear the flag of the New Patriotic Party in the 2008 general elections. Unfortunately Nana Addo Danquah Akufo emerged as winner.

Alhaji Aliu Mahama died sadly three weeks to the election on 16th November 2012 at exactly age 66 from a heart related issue and complications from stoke. He died 4 months after then the sitting President, professor John Evans Atta Mills died

In 2016- JAKE OTANKA OBETSEBI LAMPTEY

He was a senior member of the NPP where he served as the national chairman of the party at the same time sir John who was the general secretary. He was one of the petitioners of the 2012 landmark election petition case at the supreme Court of Ghana.

Mr. Paul Afoko succeeded him as the chairman of the party. Mr. Lamptey was the chairman manager of the party in 2000 when president Kuffour was the flag bearer

Mr.Lamptey served in so many capacities under President John Agyekum Kufuor’s Government. He was first appointed as the minister of information from 2001 to 2002. He was made the minister of tourism and modernization of the capital from 2002-2005.

From 2005 to July 2007 Mr. Lampetey served as Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Relations in the cabinet of President John Kuffour. We lost Him few months to the election 2016 at a hospital in London on 20th March 2006 at age 70.

IN THE SAME YEAR, 2016-JOSEPH BOAKYE DANQUAH ADU

Moreover Mr. Danquah Adu was one of Ghanaians politician and Member of parliament for the Abuakwa North constituency. On the 9th of February 2016, months to the elections he was stabbed to death at his residence.

IN 2016- MR.KWABENA BOADU

Likewise Mr.Boadu served as a special aid to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumai. He was electrocuted to death in a hotel in upper East regional capital Bolgatanga on 24th November 2016 in about two weeks to the elections.

IN 2020-(SIR JOHN) LAWYER OWUSU AFRIYIE

Sir John became one of the biggest fan of Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo because he once said on record that even if Nana Addo sit in wheelchair, he will still push him to be the president of Ghana.

He was General Secretary of the party and failed to secure his re-election in the Tamale Congress. He lost massively to the embattled Kwabena Agyapong. Sir john was cited for contempt of court during the 2012 election petition in 2016 and got fined for about Gh3000 which is $566 upon sober plead by his counsel, Lawyer Ayikoi Otoo.

In addition Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie became the Chief Executive officer of the Forestry Commission. He unfortunately got attacked by Coronavirus. And later passed on the 1st of July, 2020 an election year! At the korle Bu Teaching Hospital. He was accompanied by Hon.K.K Sam, the mayor of Sekondi Takoradi who also died of the noble Covid19
