Student arrested over anal sex with co-tenant’s son


A 25-year-old student identified as Samuel Offei Kwaku Gyan has been arrested and arraigned before the Accra Circuit Court for allegedly having anal sex with the son of his co-tenant. The student has been charged with defilement by the court. The victim is 11-years-old, both of whom stay at Teshie in the Greater Accra Region.

The lawyer of the student has denied the allegations of defilement made on his client by the court. The Accra Circuit Court has issued a bail amount of GHC 60,000 with three sureties. The sureties included one person who is a public servant earning a salary worth over GHC2,000. Also, an order from the court stated that the 25-year-old student should stay away (about 100 metres) from the victim.

The court presided over by Christina Cann ensured that the prosecution was ordered to file its witness statements and all document they intend to rely on the accused for the trial.

The case has been adjourned to Wednesday September 16, 2020 for Case Management Conference.

Actual Case

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Agnes Boafo who served as the prosecutor in the case made it known that the complainant is of Teshie resident of Sierra Leonean descent and a mother to the 11-year-old victim.

She added that the suspect (Gyan Samuel Offei) is a co-tenant to the victim. DSP went ahead to state that the victim, on August 8, 2020, went to the room of the accused to play a video game but slept in the process. She continued that Offei Samuel took advantage of it to have anal sex with the victim and warned him to keep it as secret.

Moreover, it was also revealed that on August 9, 2020, the victim paid a visit to the accused. The accused had another anal sex with the 11-year-old victim.

The accused was apprehended after the victim’s mother reported the incident to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit.

In conclusion, the court will have to decide on the due date.
