1. American University Emerging Global Leader Scholarship

Brief Description

High-achieving international students who want to study for a bachelor’s degree in the US and who are committed to making a good difference in their communities are the target audience for the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship. It is designed for students who would return home to better underdeveloped and underprivileged regions there.

• Host Institution(s): American University, Washington DC, USA
• Level/Field of Study: Any undergraduate study offered at the University
• Target Group: The scholarships are intended for international students from any country who are not dual citizens of the United States and another country, permanent residents of the United States, or U.S. citizens.
• The AU EGL scholarship pays for all AU-related bills (full tuition, room, and board). The scholarship does not pay for non-billable items such as required health insurance, books, airfare, and other costs (about US $4,000 in total).If the student maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, they are eligible to extend it for a further four years of undergraduate education.

Eligibility:

1. International students who have overcome various obstacles and challenges as well as those from diverse and underrepresented global and socioeconomic backgrounds.
2. A minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent (or in the top 10% of graduating class) for 9th-12th grades.
3. A demonstrated commitment to leadership, volunteerism, community service and to advancing the needs of people in their home country.
4. Students with one of the following: 95+ TOEFL iBT (all subscores must be 20 or above); sub-scores of 24+ on the paper-based TOEFL (Taken after May 31, 2017); 7.0+ IELTS (all subscores must be 6.0 or above); 33 minimum SAT Reading Subscore; 29 minimum ACT English; 65 minimum PTE; 120+ Duolingo (all subscores must be 110 or above);  or Cambridge Assessment English score of 185 or higher. Each sub-score must be 169 or higher.
5. Students who are still enrolled in secondary/high school and graduating by June 2023.
6. Important: Students in the IB system should plan to graduate with a full IB diploma with at lease 3 HL subjects. Students studying in the British A-Levels system must complete at least 3 A levels and finish 13 years of study before August 2023.

Application Instructions

You must submit the AU EGLS application, Common or Coalition Application, and international admissions process by the priority deadline of December 15, 2021, or by the latest deadline of January 15, 2023, to be considered for the AU Emerging Global Leader Scholarship. For autumn (August) 2023, AU EGLS applicants must submit a Regular Decision application. Avoid applying Early Decision (ED).

Knight-Hennessy Scholars at Stanford University

Brief Description

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program at Stanford University cultivates a diverse, multidisciplinary community of emerging leaders from around the world and guides them to collaborate, innovate, and communicate as they prepare to address the complex challenges facing society. Through the King Global Leadership Program, scholars will broaden their knowledge, develop skills, and strengthen their character, as scholars will go through community experiences, workshops, meetings with leaders, domestic and global study trips, and personal development opportunities.

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars span all 7 schools at Stanford. Knight-Hennessy Scholars are talented individuals, and they are made up of a multidisciplinary community of scholars. The program offers a platform for purposeful leadership development and empowers you to effect large-scale positive impact in the world.

• Target Group: Applicants from all countries – there are no restrictions based on citizenship, age, the field of study, career aspiration, etc.
• Scholarship Value: Knight-Hennessy scholars receive funding for up to three years for any graduate degree(s) at Stanford.  During each of the first 3 years of graduate study, Knight-Hennessy Scholars receive:

Eligibility:

There are two baseline eligibility requirements.

First, in addition to applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS), you must apply to, be accepted by, and enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program including, but not limited to, DMA, JD, MA, MBA, MD, MFA, MPP, MS, or Ph.D. programs.  You must meet at least one of the following four conditions:

• You are applying separately but concurrently to KHS and a full-time Stanford graduate degree program such that you will start both in the same year.
• You have already been offered and deferred admission to a full-time Stanford graduate degree program, and will apply to KHS such that you will start both in the same year.
• You are a current Stanford graduate student who will apply to add a second full-time Stanford graduate degree program, such that you will start both KHS and the new program in the same year.
• You are a current Stanford Ph.D. student in your first year of enrollment and will apply to KHS such that you will start KHS in your second year of Ph.D. enrollment.

Second, you must have earned, in January 2016 or later, a U.S. bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a college or university of recognized standing. To apply to join the cohort in 2023, you must have earned a bachelor’s degree by January 2016 or later; to apply to join the cohort in 2024, you must have earned a bachelor’s degree by January 2017 or later.
